Help to save East Lothian's Post Offices

Save Our Post Offices!

Amy is opposed to any Post Office closures in East Lothian

A major campaign has been launched by Liberal Democrats in East Lothian following new threats to local post offices by the Labour Government.

The future for many local post offices, both urban and rural, now looks bleak.

Now, the Labour Government plans to close one in five post offices.

That is why local Liberal Democrats, led by well known local campaigner Amy Rodger, have launched a campaign to protect local branches.

Amy said, "Many people are angry with Labour for threatening local post offices and are frustrated that local Labour representatives have failed to speak out. People can show their support for local branches by completing the petition form on this website."

The Liberal Democrats have published a five point plan to save local post offices threatened with closure by the Labour Government.

Under their costed plans, the Lib Dems would

- open new branches where there is real need;

- retain Post Office Card Accounts for benefit payments;

- free the Post Office from Royal Mail restrictions to let it develop new business;

- provide a new legal requirement for the Government to maintain the local Post Office network via our Post Offices.

Local Lib Dem campaigner, Amy Rodger said, "The Liberal Democrats don't just oppose Labour's closure plans, we have a costed programme to save the post office network.

"Thanks to the pressure put on the system by Labour the local post office in Fisherrow has already closed. Now, Labour plans could threaten even more local branches.

"As the challengers to Labour in East Lothian, Liberal Democrats will fight to protect our post offices, which are at the heart of our local communities."
